A youth camp in honor of the martyr and great Palestinian writer and national leader, Comrade Ghassan Kanafani, organized with the Initiative to Defend the Occupied Territories, concluded in Dheisheh refugee camp on July 16, 2012. The camp included over 100 boys and girls for 12 days, in which they participated in cultural and educational activities about the life of Ghassan Kanafani, Palestinian literature, and the history and future of Palestine.
The participants also joined in activities in the community, including volunteer activities in the camp and distribution of posters of Ghassan Kanafani. Youth participating in the camp were also educated about the rights of children and youth, Palestinian refugees’ right to return to their homes from which they were displaced and UN Resolution 194 confirming that right, and the cause of Palestinian prisoners of war in the occupation jails.
Comrade Nidal Abu Aker, one of the coordinators of the camp, said that the programs offered to the participants contributed to raising awareness about public issues, strengthened the concept of volunteerism. He thanked the supporting organizations, saying such activities are needed by the younger generation of Palestinians.
The participants received certificates bearing the image of Ghassan Kanafani during the camp’s closing ceremony.
