[singlepic id=573 w=320 h=240 float=right]A commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine was held in Spain, attended by Palestinian and Arab residents of Madrid, supporters of the Front, representatives of political parties, solidarity groups and civil society organizations in the city.
These included representatives of the Communist Party, the United Left, and other leftist organizations in Spain. Proceeds from the event went to support Palestinians in Gaza.
A speakers from the Communist Initiative saluted the Front, expressing international solidarity with the Palestinian cause, followed by representatives of the Fateh movement and the Democratic Front from the Palestinian community. Comrade Amado Pineda of the Communist Party of Spain spoke, saying that the only solution for Palestine is to establish a democratic state for all following the dismantlement of the racist Zionist entity and to achieve the historical rights of the Palestinian people, especially the right of return for refugees and the right of the Palestinian people to resistance in all its forms against the occupying enemy, calling upon Spanish progressive and left forces to strengthen their solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Comrade Miguel, representing the Front in Spain, saluted the martyrs of the Palestinian revolution and the martyrs of the Front, including the martyr founder Comrade George Habash and comrades Wadih Haddad and Abu Ali Mustafa, Ghassan Kanafani and Abu Maher Yamani and Mohammed Aswad (Guevara Gaza) and national leaders Abu Ammar, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, Abdelaziz Rantisi, Fathi Shikaki, Ahmed Ja’abari, Taghreed al-Botmeh and thousands of martyrs who sacrificed for the freedom of their land and people.
He reviewed the most prominent stages in the history of the Palestinian struggle and the role of the Front, in particular strategic vision, tactics and actions of this organization, which have merited the appreciation of the masses of our people, Palestinian and Arab forces, and progressive global movements. He emphasized the need for solidarity with our brave prisoners in Israeli jails who daily struggle in defiance of their racist Zionist jailers, led by General Secretary Ahmed Sa’adat and his comrades and brothers, including Marwan Barghouti and detained representatives of the Palestinian people.
He connected the 45th anniversary of the founding of the Front and the 25th anniversary of the first Intifada,and called for unity around the resistance and the constants of the Palestinian people. He said that the PLP must be rebuilt with real reform and re-structuring to include representatives of all of our people, in the West Bank, Gaza, Palestine ’48, and exile and diaspora on a democratic basis and in a revolutionary manner, without factionalism or unilateralism. He emphasized the role of women and the importance of their rights to equality and full participation, also urging that the issue of the prisoners be one of the most important programmatic priorities of the national struggle.
