The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine has received many messages of support and from parties and movements around the world urging the release of the Palestinian prisoners and expressing solidarity with the imprisoned leaders, Comrade Khalida Jarrar and Comrade Khitam Saafin, ordered to six and three months in administrative detention respectively.
The Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network has issued a number of statements and calls to action, working together with groups and organizations around the world to build a campaign for the freedom of the imprisoned women leaders.
From Brazil, messages of support from the Landless Workers’ Movement (MST) and the Brazilian Communist Party have demanded the release of the prisoners. Mass organizations like the Global March of Women have issued statements demanding the release of Sa’afin, Jarrar and other Palestinian prisoners. The Committees for a Democratic Palestine in Brazil are working to mobilize support for Jarrar, Saafin, and Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails.
The Communist Party of Spain issued a statement in support of Jarrar and Saafin, while parliamentarians in the Spanish parliament and the European Parliament issued messages in support of the women prisoners. Popular organizations like UNADIKUM and Alkarama also issued statements of solidarity with Saafin and Jarrar, urging international action for their release. They organized a demonstration in Madrid for the liberation of the prisoners and the boycott of the occupation.
The Portuguese Communist Party issued a statement as well as a special message to the leadership of the Popular Front, emphasizing the party’s commitment to solidarity with the Palestinian people and demanding the release of Jarrar and Saafin and their fellow prisoners. The Basque Internationalist Committee, which has worked with both leaders, also issued a statement urging their release as did the Union do Povo Galego.
A number of Greek parties and the Hellenic Union of Progressive Lawyers have demanded the release of Jarrar and Saafin, as has the Revolutionary Workers Party (DIP) in Turkey. In France, organizations like Coup Pour Coup 31 are organizing demonstrations in Toulouse and elsewhere to demand the immediate release of the prisoners.
Samidoun organized a protest in New York to demand the release of the prisoners, while Plate-Forme Charleroi-Palestine organized an action in Belgium in support of Jarrar and Saafin and the Democratic Palestine Committee protested in Berlin for their freedom. In Denmark, the International Forum demanded the release of Jarrar, Saafin and their fellow pisoners, while in Belgium the Workers’ Party of Belgium also issued a call for their freedom. Additional human rights organizations have also joined in the calls for their immediate liberation.
The PFLP salutes all the international parties, organizations and movements working to free Comrades Jarrar and Saafin and all Palestinian prisoners and encourages continued action by all revolutionary, democratic and left forces in the world to support the Palestinian people and their rights to return and liberation.
