Dar al-Farabi, the Ghassan Kanafani Cultural Forum and the Social Solidarity Center launched a new book by Comrade Ahmad Sa’adat on the brutality of the Zionist occupation toward Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, entitled “Echo of Isolation.” Comrade Sa’adat is the imprisoned General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

The launch event was widely attended by representatives of the Palestinian factions in Lebanon, the Lebanese Communist Party, the Campaign to Boycott Supporters of “Israel” in Lebanon, former prisoners of the Israeli occupation of Lebanon, progressive lawyers, women’s organizations and cultural and media figures, as well as comrades of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

Speakers at the event included Dr. Hassan Khalil, Dr. Sami Kleib, Dr. Samah Idriss, Comrade Marwan Abdel-Al and Comrade Sumoud Sa’adat, over video from occupied Palestine. In his speech, Sami Kleib emphasized Sa’adat’s recollection of the life of a prisoner in solitary confinement.

Samah Idriss, editor in chief of Al-Adab literary magazine, emphasized that Sa’adat’s particular experience of solitary confinement, including the detailed and precise recollections of the systems of surveillance and structures of isolation as well as the political impact of repressive mechanisms of solitary confinement.

In Sumoud Sa’adat’s speech, she spoke of the difficulties of obtaining the manuscript from prison and readying it for publication. She thanked Dar al-Farabi for its support for the book.

Comrade Abdel-Al noted that the book is not simply an individual recollection but a collective autobiography of the struggle of the prisoners, recalling past prison memoirs of global struggles against oppression and torture as well as Palestinian prisoners like Akkawi, Khawaja and Ibrahim al-Rai, and the experiences of Kozu Okamotu and Mordechai Vanunu under isolation in Zionist prisons.
